Bluff City Blues Training Team
About the BCB100 Training Team
Come join The Memphis Hightailers’ Bluff City Blues 100 Century Training Team! Learn to ride properly and to train for cycling’s equivalent of a marathon -- the century (100-mile) ride. Not sure you can cmplete 100 miles? Train for 100 km instead (metric century).
Your training will culminate with Bluff City Blues 100 in October.
This will be our 9th year to host this special training team, and we have trained close to 500 riders. Team members are cyclists of varying backgrounds and abilities, including many who are new to the sport. If you can ride your bike for an hour, you can train and do a century. It only takes desire, dedication, and proper training.
Our First Training Ride
Our first ride will be Saturday, March 31, leaving from 7945 Wolf River Blvd, West Cancer Center. Rides are scheduled on an alternating Saturday/Sundays with 21 rides set as you build up to riding a century (100 miles) or a metric century (100 km/ 62 miles).

In 1928 a small under-resourced and untested team from New Zealand and Australia lined up in Paris next to Europe’s best riders. Racing as a team of 4 against teams of 10, many considered the Australasian’s entry a joke, with one French journalist calling it “nothing short of murder”. 168 riders started the more than 3,500 mile race that year … only 41 finished!
Well known television personality Phil Keoghan decided to bring this remarkable story back to life, retracing the exact route while sticking to the same schedule … 150 miles a day, completely circumnavigating France while riding an original 1928 steel bicycle with no gears, marginal brakes and weighing twice as much as a modern racing bike.
